Fishing

Mazatlán has long been one of Mexico's most popular sportfishing destinations.   You can go after the many favorites of sport fishermen, Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Wahoo, Grouper and Yellowfin Tuna.   If you should happen to catch Dorado, Wahoo, Tuna or Grouper, ask your about having your fish prepared, while it is still fresh, at one of the local restaurants.  The fleets are somewhat spread out in Mazatlán, the older Marina del Crestron is located near the lighthouse, in Mazatlán harbor.  The newer marinas, El Cid and Marina Mazatlán are located at the northern end of the Golden Zone.  It is always best to call first.

Mazatlán also offers the avid fisherman a bonus.   Affordable Bass fishing tours are offered to the Culiacán and El Salto areas, nearby reservoirs, wetland areas and lakes.  Inquire at one of the local travel agencies or see below.

If you wish to bring you fish back with you, have it frozen by your charter operator.  Check with your airline, as rules regarding cooler to transport you catch vary by airline.

Hunting

In addition to their local sportfishing operation, the Avilés Brothers have been operating hunting and bass fishing tours out of Mazatlán for over thirty years.  They can arrange day trips for Ducks, Dove and Quail.  They provide the ground transportation, air boats or outboards (if needed), an English speaking professional hunter, retrievers and guides.  Call for seasonal information, limits and requirements for hunting licenses.  Morning and afternoon trips are available.  They can also arrange Bass fishing excursions to the El Salto area.  And if you need to get somewhere in a hurry they also operate an air taxi service.
